St Leonard's School Sports Organising Crew
Meet our team of Yr 6 Sports Leaders who are busy each break time organising games and activities to keep everybody active!
Year 5/6 Football Friendlies
Well done to our football team who started the season in fine style with a win and a draw in our first friendlies against our friends from Holy Trinity and Christ The King.

Year 1 Balloon Tennis Festival
Four Yr1 children had a fantastic time at the Shuttleworth Schools Balloon Tennis Event. The team did the school proud showing off their excellent tennis skills.

St Leonard's 6-1 Holy Trinity
An excellent performance saw the boys start the season in style with an emphatic win over Holy Trinity. Goals from Jack Atkinson (2), Sam Mitchell Charnley (2), Kenzie Auld & Olly McNulty capped off a fine victory. Well done!!
Three of our Yr3/4 children had an excellent time at the Burnley SSP Orienteering Festival. The children learnt various new skills and put them into action navigating around the park on a Animal hunt!
Hartley Cup Football Round 1
St Leonard's 0-0 Ightenhill (St Leonard's win 2-1 on penalties)
A thrilling game saw our Year 6 squeeze through to the next round of the Hartley Cup. After a hard fought 0-0 the game had to be decided from the penalty spot. Lake Cullen & Logan Chadwick stayed cool experlty slotting thir penalties into the top corner. Goalkepper Braiden Watson was the hero saving the final penalty to send the clarets through.
Year 5/6 Cross Country Event @ Townley Park
All our runners performed fantastically at Townley Park in horrendous conditions, showing magnificent determination which produced some brilliant results:

Yr5/6 Girls Football Friendly
St Leonard's 1-0 Holy Trinity
An excellent performance saw our girls football team come out 1-0 winners against Holy Trinity. The girls dominated the match from the beginning and were unlucky not to score more. Alex McNally got the vital winning goal early in the second half to round off a great game. WELL DONE!!

Yr2 Cross Country Event at Townley Park
A fantastic effort from our Yr 2 runners saw our athletes produce some excellent results. They all completed the very long and muddy course showing great effort and determination. A special mention to Martha Brown who was the highest place finisher with a magnificent run to claim 4th place from over 100 runners! Well doe guys!

GetIn2 Sports Festival
Our Yr6 children had an excellent time at the Getin2 sports festival at the Prairie Sports Village. They had the opportunity to try lots of different sports and learn new skills in Athletics, Archery, Dance and Crazy Golf. A special mention to Holly Heap who won a special award for excellent effort, well done!
Yr 4 Tri Golf Festival
Our Yr4 children had a great time at the Padiham Schools Tri Golf event at Shuttleworth College. They showed fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship qualities winning an award from the event organisers. They also learnt lots of new skills putting them to the test in lots of target challenges.

A fantastic effort from our girls saw them finish a very credible 3rd place in the Burnley FC Cup, narrowly missing out on the final. Well done girls!
Yr3/4 Multiskills Festival @ Burnley College
Our Yr3/4 children had a fantastic time at Burnley College competing in lots of different multiskills games and challenges! Well done!

Hartley Cup Football Round 2
St Leonard's 2-1 St James'
An excellent performance from the boys so us progress through to Round 3 of the Hartley Cup with a hard fought win against St James. After falling behind the clarets rallied and two strikes from Charlie Sharples either side of half time saw St Leonard's through to the next stage.
Yr2 Gymnastics Competition @ BEST Centre
A fantastic performance from our Gymnasts saw them dominate the Burnley Schools Competition. The team scooped the overall team Gold award with Briley Cryer, Daniel Dale and Sheree Lewis winning individual medals.

A fantastic effort from our Athletes saw them finish an excellent 6th position in the Burnley Schools Finals out of 32 who originally entered the event.
Santa Fun Run
Well done to our 65 KS2 children who took part in our annual Santa Fun Run. Despite the cold weather all runners completed the course with aplomb!

Yr4 Baketball Cluster Event
Some of our Yr4 children had an excellent time at the Shuttleworth Cluster Basketball Event. The children learnt lots of new skills before putting them to the test in a series of friendly games, winning 4 out of 5 games. Well done guys!
Burnley Schools Cheer Dance Festival
After weeks of hard work and practice our magnificent Cheer Dance team came out on top at the Burnley Schools Event, winning overall GOLD. WELL DONE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!
Reception Class 'Learn 2 Ride' Programme
A huge well done to all our YrR children who made excellent progress in their cycling sessions with Pennine Active. All the children made great progress and are now confident riding a pedal bicycle!

Congratulations to our Yr4 Gymnasts who finished in a magnificent 3rd place in the Burnley Schools Event at the BEST Centre. After weeks of hard work the children performed brilliantly to pick up the bronze medal.
Yr6 Girls Elite Cross Country @ Townley Park
A huge will done to our girls who put in a magnificent performance to finish in overall 3rd place in the Cross Country Team Event. Our girls also put in brilliant individual performances with 4 of them qualifying for the East Lancashire Finals in June:

Hartley Cup Quarter Final
St Leonard's 4-3 Worsthorne
A thrilling encounter saw the clarets progress into the final 4 of the Burnley Schools Hartley Cup Football Competition. Against the current holders the boys fought back from 0-2 and 2-3 down to clinch a dramatic 4-3 victory. Charlie Sharples scored a quick fire hat-trick to level the game at 3-3 going into the dying seconds when Josh Fleming popped up to crash in the winning goal to spark wild celebrations and now the boys are only one game away from a final at Turf Moor.
Yr5/6 Tag Rugby Festival
Our rugby team out in an excellent performance at the non-competitive Tag Rugby Festival ta BRUFC. They showed great teamwork putting their skills learnt in PE into practice.
Yr 6 Hockey Festival
Yr5/6 Netball Qualifiers
An excellent performance from our Netball team so them qualify for the Area Finals after progressing through a tough group in the area preliminary event, great work team!
Get In 2 Sports Festival
Well done to our Yr5 children who had an excellent time at the Get In 2 sports festival at the Prairie. The children got to try lots of different sports including Archery, Football and Crazy Golf.
Sports Relief Day
A huge well done to the whole school who completed the 'Sports Relief Mile' challenge and in the process raised over £700 for a very worthy cause. All the infants completed their mile at Memorial Park (with a little time to play on the swings!) and the juniors ran theirs brilliantly on Padiham Greenway.
Yr 4 Level 1 Bikeability
A huge well done to our 25 Yr4 children who all completed their Level 1 Bikeability training with coaches from Pennine Active. The children put their cycling skills to the test and are now ready to progress to the roads in Level 2 next year.
Yr1/2 Football Festival
Our Yr1/2 boys put in an excellent performance at the friendly football festival for infant children held at Shuttleworth College. The boys showed excellent skills and teamwork, the highlight of thevening was a 4-0 victory over Whittlefield with Kai Bleasdale netting all 4 goals!
Cricket Friendly v CTK
A great start to the cricket season saw our boys come out 25 run winners in a friendly against Christ The King. The boys showed some excellent skills and are now well prepared for the competitions ahead.
