St Leonard's School Sports Organising Crew

Meet our team of Yr 6 Sports Leaders who are busy each break time organising games and activities to keep everybody active!


Year 5/6 Football Friendlies

Well done to our football team who started the season in fine style with a win and a draw in our first friendlies against our friends from Holy Trinity and Christ The King.

Year 1 Balloon Tennis Festival

Four Yr1 children had a fantastic time at the Shuttleworth Schools Balloon Tennis Event. The team did the school proud showing off their excellent tennis skills.

 Yr3/4 Football Friendly v Holy Trinity

St Leonard's 6-1 Holy Trinity

An excellent performance saw the boys start the season in style with an emphatic win over Holy Trinity. Goals from Jack Atkinson (2), Sam Mitchell Charnley (2), Kenzie Auld & Olly McNulty capped off a fine victory. Well done!!

Orienteering Festival

Three of our Yr3/4 children had an excellent time at the Burnley SSP Orienteering Festival. The children learnt various new skills and put them into action navigating around the park on a Animal hunt!

 Hartley Cup Football Round 1

St Leonard's 0-0 Ightenhill  (St Leonard's win 2-1 on penalties)

A thrilling game saw our Year 6 squeeze through to the next round of the Hartley Cup. After a hard fought 0-0 the game had to be decided from the penalty spot. Lake Cullen & Logan Chadwick stayed cool experlty slotting thir penalties into the top corner. Goalkepper Braiden Watson was the hero saving the final penalty to send the clarets through.


Year 5/6 Cross Country Event @ Townley Park

All our runners performed fantastically at Townley Park in horrendous conditions, showing magnificent determination which produced some brilliant results:

Girls Race (99 runners)

Eleanor Edwards (1st), Kira Pickles (3rd), Millie Pickles (6th), Caitlen Brooks Heywood (12th), Hannah Evans (32nd), Isla Hodgkinson (58th) and Amelia Hill (60th)

Boys Race (144 Runners)

Charlie Sharples (29th) Ayub Beg (78th)


Yr5/6 Girls Football Friendly

St Leonard's 1-0 Holy Trinity

An excellent performance saw our girls football team come out 1-0 winners against Holy Trinity. The girls dominated the match from the beginning and were unlucky not to score more.  Alex McNally got the vital winning goal early in the second half to round off a great game. WELL DONE!!

Yr2 Cross Country Event at Townley Park

A fantastic effort from our Yr 2 runners saw our athletes produce some excellent results. They all completed the very long and muddy course showing great effort and determination. A special mention to Martha Brown who was the highest place finisher with a magnificent run to claim 4th place from over 100 runners! Well doe guys!

GetIn2 Sports Festival 

Our Yr6 children had an excellent time at the Getin2 sports festival at the Prairie Sports Village. They had the opportunity to try lots of different sports and learn new skills in Athletics, Archery, Dance and Crazy Golf. A special mention to Holly Heap who won a special award for excellent effort, well done!



Yr 4 Tri Golf Festival 

Our Yr4 children had a great time at the Padiham Schools Tri Golf event at Shuttleworth College. They showed fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship qualities winning an award from the event organisers. They also learnt lots of new skills putting them to the test in lots of target challenges.

Well done to our athletes who finished in an excellent runners up position and have now qualified for the Borough Finals in December.

Overall: 3rd Place

A fantastic effort from our girls saw them finish a very credible 3rd place in the Burnley FC Cup, narrowly missing out on the final. Well done girls!

Yr3/4 Multiskills Festival @ Burnley College

Our Yr3/4 children had a fantastic time at Burnley College competing in lots of different multiskills games and challenges! Well done!

Hartley Cup Football Round 2

St Leonard's 2-1 St James'

An excellent performance from the boys so us progress through to Round 3 of the Hartley Cup with a hard fought win against St James. After falling behind the clarets rallied and two strikes from Charlie Sharples either side of half time saw St Leonard's through to the next stage.

Yr2 Gymnastics Competition @ BEST Centre

A fantastic performance from our Gymnasts saw them dominate the Burnley Schools Competition. The team scooped the overall team Gold award with Briley Cryer, Daniel Dale and Sheree Lewis winning individual medals.

Sports Hall Athletics Borough Finals

A fantastic effort from our Athletes saw them finish an excellent 6th position in the Burnley Schools Finals out of 32 who originally entered the event.
