YEAR 5/6 SPORTS HALL ATHLETICS TOWN FINALS @ SIR JOHN THURSBY

02/12/2015

We are all extremely proud of our year 5/6 Athletics team who competed in the Burnley town finals on Wednesday evening at Sir John Thursby College. To be invited to the finals meant that the children firstly had to qualify through the Padiham schools competition in November, where we qualified with the 'best runner up'  score out of all the schools in Burnley and Padiham. This automatically meant we were in the top 8 schools in Burnley and Padiham. All the children underwent a variety of field and track events throughout the night which included Obstacle Race, 1 x 1, 2 x 2, 4 x 1, Javelin, Speed Bounce, Vertical Jump, Chest Push, Standing Long Jump and Triple Jump between all of them in both the boys and girls events. The children completed such high team and individual scores, that as a school, out of the 8 schools in Burnley and Padiham that were invited to the town finals, we finished the evening in 4th place, narrowly missing out on the Bronze Medal position by a fraction. The children all performed to an extremely high ability and gave everything they had in every event that they participated in to achieve our overall position. We are all very proud of you athlete's and you should be proud of yourselves too! A fantastic achievement by every single one of you!

Team: Blake Greenwood, Harry Starkie, Thomas Berry, Kody Chadwick, Lucas Mitchell-Charnley, Leah Tulloch, Alexis Clark-Clouston, Demi Whalley, Sophie Cooper, Nell Brown and Tegan Holt.

The year 3/4 football team participated in the Burnley and Padiham football festival on Thursday evening at Shuttleworth College. Throughout the 4 games that they played, they didn't concede a single goal, with Braiden Watson being reliable as ever between the goals and our rock solid defence keeping the opposition at bay. All the children played excellent all night, showing the progression they are continuing to make. Also a special mention to Freya-Louise Haigh and Alex McNally who made their debut for the year 3/4 boys team and also to Archie Moorhouse, who despite being a year 2 child, also made his debut for the team and impressed throughout the night.
