Information for Parents
At Padiham St Leonard’s CE Primary we are very fortunate to have a supportive and friendly parent body. Our parents recognise that educating children is a process that involves partnership between parents, class teachers and the school community. As a partnership, our parents understand the importance of a good working relationship to equip children with the necessary skills for adulthood. For these reasons we continue to welcome and encourage parents/carers to participate fully in the life of our school. Our Parental Code of Conduct provides a reminder to all parents, carers and visitors to our school about the expected conduct. This is so we can continue to flourish, progress and achieve in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
In order to help you in supporting your child's education we organise a variety of parental workshops on a range of subjects, e.g. phonics, e-safety, moving into Key Stage 1 etc. Details of when these are held are sent home on newsletters.
How else can parents help?
● ensure your child is punctual
● discuss school activities and work
● listen to your child read every night
● praise/encourage whenever possible
● support the school
● set high standards of behaviour
● ensure that absences are rare
● ensure that any homework is completed
● above all keep in close contact with the class teacher
Travel to School
School opens each day at 8am for Breakfast and Fit Club. If your child is attending breakfast club they should enter the building by the lower entrance on Moor Lane. They will be greeted at the door by Miss Emma and must arrive before 8.30am.
The school gates are opened at 8.45am so that children can start entering school so they are ready for lessons when school starts at 8.55am.
If possible please walk your child to school. This not only keeps your child healthy by contributing to the 60 minutes of exercise recommended each day, but also makes the roads near school less busy and therefore safer for our pupils.
If you need to drive to school please think carefully about where you park and if possible park away from the building and walk the last part of the journey. This makes the roads around the school much safer for all the pupils so they have clear visibility for crossing roads.
School car parks are locked during these times to ensure there is no moving traffic whilst children are walking in these areas. Please do not bring dogs onto school grounds as however well-trained your dog they can react very differently when surrounded by large numbers of excited children and our children’s safety must be our priority.

Accidents and Health and Safety
If there are minor problems concerning illness or accidents at school these can usually be dealt with by the staff. However, it is important that parents can be contacted if a more serious problem arises. It is vital therefore that emergency contact addresses and telephone numbers for parents or close relations/friends are kept up to date. If these complete a new contacts sheet.
Usually, medication is only needed three times a day (i.e. before school, after school and before bedtime) and so does not need to come to school. If medicine has to be given at lunchtime, parents should complete a medical consent form.
If your child has asthma or any other health care needs please contact Mrs Gaukroger and complete a Health Care plan. Inhalers for asthma must be clearly labelled with the child’s name and kept in their bag. It may be helpful to have one inhaler at home and one in school.
If you need to report your child’s absence, parents should telephone school on 01282 771470 before 9:30 am to let us know.
